Third Year: Innovations Assignment - Experimental Stop Motion Light Painting
For my 'Innovations' assignment completed during my 3rd year at Bournemouth University I decided to experiment with light painting as a form of stop motion animation.
I created a light painted stop motion animation using an iPad as a light source by combining CG and stop motion techniques; Experimenting with the process of light painting and how it can be done using a portable display device, such as an iPad, to produce long exposure light paintings, which can be combined as a sequence to create a stop motion animation. This is done by taking a long exposure photograph, while displaying multiple images on the screen that have been created digitally, in the form of a video, as the iPad is moved through space.
I was initially inspired by the 'Making Future Magic' project created by Berg and Dentsu London (Back in 2010) and MPCs motion light painting project for McLaren.
This is a short making of video that explains my research and development process.
